Jazz Styles-Free Jazz

This is the sixth video in our series featuring Brent Jensen’s lectures on jazz history.  Brent teaches jazz at the College of Southern Idaho and is an excellent saxophone player on the Origin record label.

This video highlights the history of free jazz.  Brent plays many different styles of jazz, but free jazz seems to be one of his favorites to explore these days.  I feel that many professors of jazz downplay the importance of free jazz, and so it’s interesting to learn more about free jazz from the perspective of someone who loves to explore it himself as a player.  Enjoy!
