Today’s episode is a special message from me to the Learn Jazz Standards family about how we can get through these trying times together, and come out the other side stronger and more motivated than ever before.
Listen to this bonus episode
Hey, what’s up, Learn Jazz Standards family! I wanted to record this bonus episode today just to say, hey listen, we are all in this together.Â
I know that we are going through a hard time here in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic. For a lot of us, life has changed quite dramatically. From my listeners in Japan, from my listeners in the UK, from my listeners in the United States, in Canada and all over the world.
It’s something that affected all of us and I know it is a time where we are feeling a lot of anxiety, some pain, some hurt, and a lot of fear about what the future holds.
And what I want to do and use this platform today is not necessarily to talk about music and all that stuff that I always talk about on this show. But rather to say, in solidarity, I am here for you.Â
In this episode:
1. Default to Gratitude
2. Default to Generosity
3. Default to Community
4. Default to Goal Setting

I look forward to having you join me in the next episode!
Brent, I’ve lost count of the differnt ways you’ve inspired me. I thought this was a real tonic, thank you so much.
I’m ordering a takeaway tonight and I thought I could do one small thing. I have a friend who’s going through a rough time financially so I’ll be ordering a takeaway for his family tonight too as a surprise. You’ve always made a ‘call to action’ to your listeners so I hope you would allow me to do the same and that’s to ask the community to do one small thing for a friend, neighbour or even a stranger – perhaps an elderly person who lives nearby – that would make their life a little happier.
The pandemic has brought a great deal of tragedy but we have also seen remarkable acts of generosity and kindness. I strongly believe that during a crisis, a person’s character is tested and their true nature revealed. I hope we can all come out of this better people.
Hey Mark! Thanks for sharing this, and thank you for helping out your friend and your local restaurant. Really inspired and made my morning, thanks!
Thank you for your encouragement, Brent! After listening to your podcast, I decided to order dinner from my neighborhood Chinese restaurant instead of cooking tonight. I have been helping out my fellow teachers transition to the online format. I am kind of stoked to see what other little things I can do to lean more toward generosity and help out the community.
So grateful to have so much in my life, and to have found you, Brent!
That’s great Meg! And I’m happy to have you in the community. Thanks for helping others out!
