“The Nearness of You” is a tune written by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Ned Washington. It was published in 1938 and was featured in the Paramount motion picture “Romance in the Dark” that same year. The hit selling version of this tune that year was from the Glenn Miller Band. This tune has been performed and recorded by just about everybody with a name in the jazz world; everyone from Billie Holiday and Ray Brown to Brad Mehldau and Norah Jones. “The Nearness Of You” is most commonly played as a ballad however many different styles and arrangements have been applied to this song.

This tune is most commonly played in the key of F major.
