“Summertime” is a tune written by the great George Gershwin for the 1935 opera “Porgy and Bess”. Lyrics were written by DuBose Hayward. This tune is recognized as one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music. More than 25,000 covers of Summertime have been recorded by groups and solo performers.
This is a very important tune to know in the jazz idiom.
