Georgia On My Mind was written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1930. Lyrics were written by Stuart Gorrell. It was first recorded in New York by Carmichael and his Orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke on coronet and Hoagy on vocals. The tune became a hit, and it’s covers such as the rendition by Ray Charles have become famous. The state of Georgia made this their official state song in 1979.

Jazz musicians most commonly play this tune in the key of F major.
