“Equinox” was written by the great tenor saxophonist John Coltrane. It was recorded on his 1964 hit record “Coltrane’s Sound”. Coltrane’s wife, Naima, named this tune. Equinox is a 12 bar minor blues in the key of C#m. Trane’s approach to this blues reflects the musical path he was pioneering during the release of this record. Be sure to learn the intro line as it is important to the piece. The comping hits are important to learn as well as they are played throughout the duration of the tune. The rhythms have been notated on the chord charts below.
