“Cheryl” is a 12 bar blues written by Charlie “Bird” Parker. It’s one of our personal favorites on Learn Jazz Standards. Studying the melody is a good way to get into bebop. It’s always a good thing to study bebop heads because they contain so much information about how the masters approached improvising. This tune is a great example of the bebop language fused with the blues.
