“Black Nile” is a tune composed by tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter. It was composed and recorded for his 1964 album “Night Dreamer”. I highly suggest checking out “Night Dreamer” if you haven’t already. It’s an influential record with an all-star quintet: Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, and Reggie Workman.

“Black Nile” has an AABA form, the A sections centering around Dm and the B section centering around Eb major. Be sure to check out the original recording to learn the hits, especially during the intro.
