Impressions was written by John Coltrane. The changes are identical to Miles Davis’ tune So What. Trane recorded “So What” with Miles on Miles’ classic, best-selling jazz album “Kind of Blue” in 1959. Two years later Trane recorded Impressions for the first time on his own record date, “Live at the Village Vanguard” in 1961. “Impressions” is a little more aggressive and lively than “So What,” though they are very similar.
