LJS 187: [Strategy #3] The Secret Sauce for Mastering a Jazz Blues

Welcome to episode 187 of the LJS Podcast where we conclude “Jazz Blues Month!” In this episode, I cover my philosophy on mastering musical material, and it especially applies to a jazz blues. No, it’s not a bunch of fancy licks, short cuts, and hacks. It’s real process. I dig into that and how you can start taking action.

Listen to episode 187

For the first time in the Learn Jazz Standards podcast history, I am re-recording an episode. This episode.

This is not the original version of the episode that I had planned and there’s a few reasons for that, I’ll go over a little bit later. But I wanted to be sure to make this episode special.

And I wanted to do it the right way to conclude “Jazz Blues Month!” here on the podcast, so I’m going to dive in today on the secret sauce for mastering a jazz blues.

This is really what it comes down for me, not just for the jazz blues, but with all the stuff that I do for becoming a better jazz musician. But it’s really going to tie together for jazz blues and we are going to close this thing up right.

In this episode:

  1. Man did the “process and system” emphasis hit a home run. I already knew this is what works for me, I’m simply all over the place without it. I like structured learning ! I learned that lesson when I was bitten by the salsa dancing bug 20 years ago! Looking forward to the masterclass Brent.
By the way if you know of any podcast platform that allows android users to do a review, please let me know cos I have wasted hours trying to find one… what is the deal with Android and podcast reviews? It’s not just me, I’ve come across lot’s of other people expressing the same frustration.
Looking forward to Sunday…I hope you get the response you deserve.

    • Hi Aidan! So glad the podcast resonated with you. Android platforms are definitely behind. Apple Podcasts is definitely the king of podcasting platforms, but others like Spotify are rising up. I'm not entirely sure if Spotify has a way to review yet.
