R.I.P. Jazz Trumpeter Lew Soloff (1944-2015)

lew soloff

This has been a tough year so far in the jazz world, with the loss of Clark Terry, producer Orrin Keepnews, and now Lew Soloff. Lew passed away today as the result of a heart attack. He was an amazing trumpet player and an inspiration to many. He had an incredible career, collaborating with the rock band Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Gil Evans, Frank Sinatra, Carla Bley, Jon Faddis, Ornette Coleman, and many others. His discography was impressive, and yet somehow I find myself wishing I had more Lew to listen to. His impact on the jazz world was substantial, and he will be missed.

Here is some inspiration from Lew Soloff. R.I.P.
