E Blues

August 19, 2010 in Jazz Standards

This the 7th post in a two week series about the blues in all keys.  I choose to use straight eights on this key because it is a very guitar oriented key, and it’s unlikely you’ll play in this key much unless you have a guitar in your group.  The E Blues is usually done with a “rock” or straight up “blues” feel as opposed to a “jazz blues”.  You won’t hear this key too often in jazz clubs.  You should still learn it-you may need it when B.B. King comes to town!

There’s a twist.  As in all of the keys in this series, the 3rd chorus goes into Blues for Alice changes.  Good luck with those in this key!
