September 2, 2010 in Uncategorized
These are the 15 most common chords. All guitarists need to know them, regardless of what style they play. These are the first chords everyone must know. Pop and folk music use these chords ALL the time. Even worship guitar in many churches uses mostly these chords. However, there is more to music than these 15 chords.
This post is dedicated to the thousands of guitarists out there who are learning or have learned these basic chords, but have not yet taken the jump into become a jazz player. These 15 chords are ubiquitous in pop music today. Normally these are the first 15 chords guitarists learn. Some never move beyond this point. After you’ve got a handle on these chords, however, there has to be something more, right? That’s where jazz comes in-after you have the basics of your instrument down.

That´s more like a guide for campfire chords. Even basic jazz chords involve 6,maj7,9,11 and 13 sounds. Also the open strings may not fit the context of playing.

Hi Claus,
Yes, these are NOT meant to be jazz chords. They are “campfire” chords, as you say. I often teach beginning students, and you’ve got to learn to walk before you can run! Jazz comes a little later after they have a basic understanding of the guitar.
Your Comments These are more folk chords.Very basic. To play even basic jazz you must learn to bar and play substitute chording. One chord can be played a multitude of ways using different positions on the fret.Sorry guy for Bob Dylan and so these fit fine, but for jazz,i dont think so!irie blue.
